AirStrip OB now available for the Android OS

I first wrote about AirStrip Technologies back in December 2009. At the time all the AirStip applications were availble for the iOS. That’s all changed as the company recently announced that AirStrip OB is now available from the Android Market.

AirStrip OB is the first application from AirStrip to be made available via the Android Market. AirStrip OB is now available for the following Android models:

  • Samsung Epic 4G
  • HTC Incredible
  • Samsung Fascinate
  • HTC Droid Eris
  • Motorola Droid
  • Motorola Droid 2
  • Motorola Droid X
  • HTC EVO

“As the emerging standard of care, it has been demonstrated that AirStrip has a profound impact on the ability of physicians and nurses to more safely deliver babies,” said AirStrip Chief Sales Officer Bruce Brandes. “AirStrip wants to make sure that every mother, baby and caregiver can benefit from this technology regardless of which phone or carrier their doctor may choose.”

The AirStrip solution suite allows clinicians unprecedented remote access to critical patient data in virtual real time. Medical professionals can use their smartphones to see vital signs, critical waveform data and other clinical information, which is sent directly from the hospital and can be securely accessed from virtually anywhere a cell-phone or other wireless connection is available.

“As mobile operating systems and wireless networks become faster and more sophisticated, AirStrip Technologies is aggressively working ahead to be at the forefront of new development in the handheld arena,” added AirStrip Technologies co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Trey Moore.

AirStrip OB is now in use at hundreds of U.S. hospitals and healthcare systems.

AirStrip Technologies solutions are available on a subscription basis and are purchased by the hospital for medical professionals. All solutions are designed to comply with federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.

The significance of this move is the recognition that the Android OS is now a player in the healthcare industry. In addition, the number of devices currently available running the Android OS is significant, and that number will only grow as developers continue to create applications for the platform. Just look at the variety of devices listed in the press release above. You have screen sizes ranging from 3.2 inches on the Droid Eris to over 4 inches on devices like the Droid X. Plus you have devices across all mobile service providers: AT&T, Sprint, Verizon and T-Mobile. Basically it boils down to having a choice.

Excellent work AirStrip Technologies.
